A Rich-Mar Sports History
The original push pole head was designed by Herter's of Waseca, MN in the 1930's. The idea was for the duck hunter to propel his boat through shallow water in swamps and backwaters where oars and paddles were not effective. As the demand grew it became obvious that since this devise required a pole to be attached to the "head" that it would make sense to sell a pole and also offer a head with the pole attached permanently. The company was purchased from Herter's bankruptcy judge in 1980 by Mr. Richard Kaus who continued in the tradition of building this product and improving it over the years. The product line was expanded to include accessory components such as a paddle to be attached to the pole and a head for hard bottoms such as sand or rocks. To this head he attached a hook to retrieve decoys. The Super Duxwax compound was then added to the line to allow hunters to remove feathers including the pin feathers from their ducks & geese after a successful hunt. This is a special compound that does not flake like ordinary paraffin.
I purchased Rich-Mar Sports in the summer of 2002. Being an avid hunter, I saw great potential in the company. There have been additions & improvements to the line since I acquired the business and the future looks great for Rich-Mar Sports. There are many new products on the horizon and many new markets that my company is pursuing. You will soon be seeing the name Rich-Mar Sports more & more.
Sincerely,
Scott Hiltgen
